Production Photographer Cardiff. Why I love these Photos # 5
When not doing weddings I am also a Production Photographer and I get the opportunity to watch a piece of theatre / musical/ dance for free! All I have to do is take some photos! (I am, of course, paid for this pleasure too – win win!) The above photos were taken from a production by 3rd year students at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. The show was ‘Intimate Apparel’ and was performed in The Caird Studio at the college.
I love this set of photographs because I love good lighting and for me that is often just a single light source. It is something that I have explored in my wedding photography – although it is a work in progress. These shots were taken very quickly in low light and were very only there for a few seconds. So they were shot at speed and not the sharpest photographs I took that day but they are my favourite. I used to work in theatre and did was lighting designer on a number of professional productions and where possible I tried to include such vignettes.
I love the silhouette and the half lit actor. It is such an elegant look and the black around the image draws focus to only one place. Just him. I love this shot and told the actor when I photographed him next. He probably thought I was crazy! I’m not.
