Why I love this photo # 1

Angharad & Llyr Resized-739

You can tell a lot about a photographer from what they photograph but also from what they like to show and enthuse about. This photograph was one of my very favourite photos of the last few years. It was taken at a St Donats wedding in 2015 at the wedding of Angharad and Llyr on a lovely August evening after the food and speeches. I love the outside space at St Donats Castle and it was a quick shot that I captured just after I turned round. I did not have any warning and if I had I would probably have composed it better but … it’s the sort of shot I absolutely love the way the guest is heading the ball in her high heels, with her handbag still in her clutches and making a very good defensive header of it too.

It was a quick shot that I captured just after I turned round. I did not have any warning and if I had I would probably have composed it better but … it’s the sort of shot that makes me smile in the editing process. I absolutely love the way the guest is heading the ball in her high heels, with her handbag still in her clutches and making a very good defensive header of it too. The closest guests in the photograph are all watching the ball and this sense of focus and engagement really improves it. There are often photographs that I see when I am editing that are ruined by others in the photo not looking engaged or pulling a funny face. Sometimes I crop them out and sometimes I have to put the shot in the bin! So to see everyone completely together in this shot was great.

I have this photograph in one of my sample albums and very rarely is it commented on but that is OK by me as I think it is a good representation of what I do or try to do at every wedding. It’s all about capturing the spirit and fun of the occasion and this was it for me.

I am hoping to do a few more of these over the coming months so look out for them and feel free to let me know what you think.
