Winter!! The time when weddings get real and as a photographer you have to work harder, faster and use every bit of experience to make the day run smoothly as well as getting great shots for your couples. It is also a time when my wardrobe reverts to a warmer suit, a vest, two pairs of socks and two pairs of pants! This wedding at Ocean View Windmill was the first of my 2019 winter weddings and boy did I need my warmer clothes. It was wet, cold and windy but still a really lovely day with some tremendously lovely people. I also had the pleasure of working with Gareth from Gareth croft films – we had a great time working together and were able top help each other out when it was wet!
Alison and Carl had been together for 12 years and their wedding at St Marys Church in Pennard and then onto Ocean View Windmill was the outcome of Carl’s Christmas day 2018 proposal at Alisons parents house. I am not 100% sure if he did it in front of the rest of the family or not …. Anyway we managed to have a perfect (?) dry window for Alison to arrive at the church and she looked gorgeous in her Bianco Evento dress from Chic and Elegant Bridal shop in Swansea. We even managed some photos in the church of the door way for her and the bridesmaids with their flowers from Blooming Belles. The ceremony and vicar was great – a really lovely church wedding that was full of love and honoured their commitment in front of God and their guests!
The dryish spell continued and we quickly managed a meet and greet outside this beatiful church and then confetti before I headed off for some windswept fun at Wobley castle with Alison and Carl. It was a very short shoot as it was windy, cold, wet and muddy but we still got some great shots. In the winter it is always worth getting out for some photos but we can do less and it always adds beautifully to your album.
The rest of the day was spent in the marquee at Ocean View Windmill and we only ventured out for (under cover) group photos and then some final shots in the evening with my lighting of the couple – that I really like and set me up for the weddings that followed this one. The atmosphere in the tent was full of fun and it was great to get to chat to some of the guests and feel like more part of it. We were fed excellently by the catering team at Ocean View and that set me up for the rest of the day!
The couple first danced to Jeris Spencer music after cutting their delicious looking cake that was made by ‘Cakes by Katy‘. I even managed to off load the camera for 1 minute to dance with some of the guests and their is even a photo taken on my camera by one of the guests. I look like I have moves BTW! Anyway it was a long but satisfied drive home after a few last shots with the couple and looking back I really like these photos – I know they did and I hope you do too.
