BBC ‘Messiah with Gareth Malone’ Photography by Simon Gough

It was a real joy to be contacted by Somersault studios who were producing ‘Messiah with Gareth Malone’ that was to be aired over Easter on BBC One in 2025. My job was to take photos in the recorded dress rehearsal at Llandaff Cathedral as well as doing a number of set up staged photos of Gareth and the amatuer cast. These were to be used for publicity as well as being used on idents for television and Iplayer.

The show was recorded in February and photos were edited and sent off to the production company by the end of the month and I had all but forgotten about it when the photos popped up on Iplayer whilst i was looking for something to watch with my family. There was also the bonus (for my friends and family at least) that I appeared very briefly twice in the documentary that they made that accompanied the series.

It was great to be involved in this and having to work at speed when asked and skillfully avoid cameras and cables taking photos during the dress. I did not have any time to chat to Gareth but had a lovely chat with his parents as I was packing up!
